"It is not important to me that there would be famous people among my students. It is not about that someone who practices aikido or Kashima Shin Ryu is famous for being my student. I am glad that, among my students, there are good doctors, diplomats, lawyers, scientists who have achieved something in their field. They are not famous for being my students. Not everyone who practices aikido will be professional. My dream is that what I teach in training helps them in their future jobs. The point is that in the future, being a doctor, diplomat, professor, they keep the Budo spirit I taught them."
Shigeho Tanaka sensei (9 dan) died at the age of 92 on May 11, 2020. Student of Kunii Zen'ya sensei and Morihei Ueshiba sensei, founder and director of Shiseikan for many years, he taught following generations of students at the University of Tokyo for almost 70 years.
